Being in Nature - Air: September 1 - 7

[Click the YouTube link at the end of this post to hear me share the reflection and meditation.]

Some mornings sitting in stillness feels like a lot of work, especially when I'm tangled up in knots. On these mornings, I try to sit outside for meditation. I spend too much of my life in the house, in the office, in the car, in air-conditioned spaces for the sake of comfort and convenience. Unfortunately, I'm disconnected from nature for the greater part of the day. When I take the time to be in nature and simply breathe, I'm doing great things for my mind, my body, and my soul. So, remember to open a window, hang out on your front step, or sit under a tree as you enter your morning practice. Even if you don't conquer your thoughts today, rest assured, you've already improved your wellbeing.

Practice

For today's practice, bring to mind your favorite spot in nature or better yet escape into the wilderness of your backyard.

Recite and reflect on these words.

Breathe in the morning air.

Receive the promise of this new day.

Breathe out and let go.

Release that which is no longer needed.

Breathe in oxygen from the oceans and trees.

Remember your connection to all living things.

Breathe out with compassion.

Vow to honor and care for our home.

Breathe in the universe.

You are stardust and recycled elements of earth.

Breathe out humility and gratitude.

Boldly shine with all your being.
