Usually I think of a moment as lasting but a breath. But as we reflect on this closing season of mindfulness, a moment could be an hour, a year, or a lifetime. Today, let's think of 2025 as a passing moment. In today's practice, we'll follow the guidance of Jack Kornfield and reflect on this year using these questions:
Did I live fully?
Did I love whole-heartedly?
Did I learn to let go?
Practice
You may want a paper and pen, a journal, or something to capture your thoughts. Settle into a quiet space and set a timer for 5 to 10 minutes. Replay the past year in your mind nonjudgmentally. This is not your annual review at work, an audit with your financial advisor, nor a health checkup. Instead watch the scenes unfold as you would watch a movie. Which moments stand out? Consider the question: Did I live fully?
When was I most myself? When was I most alive? What moments shaped me? Take a little time to reflect deeply. If you wish, write down whatever feels important.
Let's repeat the process. Set your timer again but this time consider the question:
Did I love whole-heartedly?
When was I most connected to the people who matter most to me? When did I embody compassion? How did love guide my heart this year? Take a little time to reflect deeply. If you wish, write down whatever feels important.
Now that you've got the idea how this works, set your timer, keep your journal handy, and consider the question:
Did I learn to let go?
If this year was contained in a single breath, what did I receive and what do I release? What will I leave behind and what will I carry into the next chapter? If you wish, write down whatever feels important.

Thank you for sharing your practice, the way it buoys you and can buoy us. Wishing you and yours love and peace in this New Year!
