Beginner’s Mind: April 30 - May 6

ree

If your mind is empty,

it is always ready for anything,

it is open to everything.

In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities,

but in the expert’s mind there are few.

Shunryu Suzuki

Zen monk and teacher

In a world of technology and information overload, a million voices compete for our attention every day, offering answers and advice. I often feel overwhelmed by it all. There is something freeing in simplicity. Life is mysterious. Be humble. Always be a student, open to learning from the newness of each moment.

What if today, you looked at your significant other, a beloved friend, a colleague as if you were meeting them for the very first time? What if you stood in front of your home and really looked at a tree, a passing cloud, or a drop of water and saw it with new eyes?

Practice

Right now, pause and...

Take a breath. Savor the moment.

Take a breath. Be grateful for life as it is right now.

Take a breath. Be open to all it holds.

Bonus points for taking a walk with a toddler and letting them guide the way. Experience the world through the eyes of a child.
