At work, I'm a budget subject matter expert (SME), a report SME, and a training SME. I like knowing lots of things and am frequently rewarded for it. I'd like to think after 60 years on this planet, I know a little something. And this is a trap! In the world of meditation, beginner's mind opens us up to seeing the world with fresh eyes.
What if today, you looked at your significant other, a beloved friend, a colleague as if you were meeting them for the very first time? What if you stood in front of your home and really looked at a tree, a passing cloud, or a drop of water?
In mindfulness, we train to listen to the breath because it can bring us in contact with the present moment. This moment is a new gift, for it is only in the present moment we can love and heal and forgive. And every breath can be a doorway to the present moment.
Right now, pause and ...
Take a breath. Savor the moment.
Take a breath. Be grateful for life as it is right now.
Take a breath. Be open to all it holds.
I have a Post-It note on my monitor that I look at every morning. Feel free to borrow it.

Yesterday, I introduced you to some amazing teachers. Jon Kabat-Zinn is another giant in the world of meditation. Check out his short reflection on Beginner's Mind.
Practice Options
Throughout the day, pause to take three intentional breaths to savor, in gratitude, with openness.
If you can, borrow a 2 or 3 year old child to go on a walk. Take their hand, and let them lead the way. See the world as they see it. Hear what they hear. Toddlers can be pretty amazing teachers as well.
