I know a few things deep in my bones.
Things like:
Even when I feel lonely, I'm never alone.
The divine hides behind every stone and within each blade of grass, if only I look.
Love never dies, it just changes form.
We live in abundance. There really is enough time, enough stuff, enough love for everyone.
So why am I so forgetful? Partly, we're hard-wired to worry as a species as a survival mechanism. Partly, our consumerist society purposely triggers our insecurities, always telling us we need more to be satisfied. Gosh, just thinking about all the things that make me anxious, makes me anxious. In my constant striving to achieve, I lose sight of what is truly important. Life doesn't have to be this way. I forget.

Mindfulness is like tying a string around my finger. The purpose of meditation is to help me pause and remember. My breath reminds me I am alive. The present moment reminds me I am gifted anew with light and love. The sound of birds outside my window reminds me everything I need has already been given. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, stop, take a breath, and remember to remember.
Practice
Find a spot where you can gather your thoughts. Settle into your body and settle into your breath. Take a mental inventory. What concerns and fears are you carrying around whether consciously or unconsciously? You don't have to push them away nor do you have to let them sweep you away. Recognize whatever is present. Allow life to be just as it is.
Call to mind family and friends who have supported you. They are also present in your heart. With each breath, allow your awareness to expand. Make room for everything. As you exhale, let go of what no longer serves. Feel your feet on the ground. Release any sluggish or stale energy in your body. Imagine it flowing into the earth. The earth is big enough to hold it all. Breathe in light and love. The universe is big enough to provide everything you need. Claim your spot in creation.
Remember to remember. Place your hand on your heart and touch into love. Stay here as long as it takes for you to remember who you are. Be still. Remember what you already know.
