When Patrick and I married 25 years ago, we vowed to make our home a place of love and welcome. We try to keep that promise. Our dining room is the heart of our home. Many birthdays, holidays, and everyday meals are celebrated here. We even had a table made for our beach house to hold all of our guests for Thanksgiving. While my meditation rock at the beach will always be a special place, my heart is the fullest when I am home.
When you enter some homes, you sense how the memories
have seeped to the surface,
infusing the aura of the place
and deepening the tone of its presence.
Where love has lived,
a house still holds the warmth.
Even the poorest home feels like a nest
if love and tenderness dwell there.
Practice
A house can be built in about a year but a home takes a lifetime to create. Day by day, dream by dream, tear by tear, and joy by joy, it comes to be. It shelters and protects you and you carry it with you on the inside. It holds your heart.
Sit within your home and be at home. The earth is our home. The roof over our head is our home. The body in which we live is our home. Treasure them all. Sit within your home and be at home.
What a day that was! But the one that comes to mind is one of the first conversations we ever had - at your home before 18th street. (before I knew we were cousins! ) Your intentions were clear - way back before your wedding. You are living your dream! Mindfulness, indeed. Day after day - one foot in front of the other. Love ya!
