Over the last few weeks, you’ve constructed a framework for meditation. First, you set up an inviting space. Second, you focused the mind to arrive and be present. Third, you took a posture to attend to the body. The next important part is to set an intention to orient your heart. Your intention can be expressed in many ways:
To be kinder
To listen more deeply
To be more present
To respond rather than react
To approach the day with gratitude
Think of your intention as the guiding star, used to direct your attention along the path of mindfulness.
The same intention can serve for a day, a month, or a lifetime. Think of it as a seed that is watered and nurtured by each occasion of mindfulness. Watch it grow and mature from season to season.
Practice
Take a moment to consider what is of importance to you at this point in your life? Find words to give shape to the true desire of your heart. This is your intention. Repeat it a few times as you would a mantra. Bring it into today’s meditation and the days to follow as it blossoms and ripens.
