Good meditation teachers may inspire and move you but the best teachers don't actually teach anything at all. Rather, they show you the truths you already always knew, you just didn't know you knew it until someone gave you the words.
Teachings on mindfulness may be easy to understand but difficult to live. Fortunately, you have an entire lifetime to learn. Always trust your innate wisdom. Remember you are your first and best teacher.
Practice
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? You know the answer. As with most important things in life, the secret is showing up again and again and again. Always return to the basics.
Use the breath as an anchor. Breathe in and know that you are breathing. Sense where the breath is most present in the body. Is it the nostrils, the throat, the belly?
As thoughts arise, return your awareness to the breath. This is the basic practice. Thoughts will surface over and over again. No worry. Thoughts are not distractions but invitations to return to awareness of the breath again and again. Returning to awareness is the essence of mindfulness. Trust that everything you need is already here.
