Thoughts on Gratitude: November 26 - December 2


Gratitude is like a flashlight.

It lights up what is already there.

You don’t necessarily have anything more or different,

but suddenly you can actually see what is.



Gratitude is an amazing thing.

The more I pay attention to it, the more I see.

The more gratitude or awe I feel,

the more life shows forth its beauty and terror,

the more my life is graced.





Practice


Take gratitude walks, which is taking a walk with these added instructions. The destination makes no difference. Walk slowly and mindfully. Pay attention to the body. Walk and know that you are walking. Sense your feet on the earth. Call to mind anything for which you are grateful – your health, the beauty of the day, your community. Be present to the sights and sounds that surround you. Whenever you spot beauty or wonder, stop walking. Soak in the experience. Open your eyes. Open your ears. Open your heart. Take a picture if you want. Text a friend and share the moment of gratitude. Start walking again. Repeat the above until you arrive home.
