In weeks 1 and 2, I introduced the topics of mindfulness and lovingkindness as a means to pay attention to our thoughts in a non-judgmental way and to open our hearts to those around us. We cultivate the skills of mindfulness and lovingkindness not primarily for our individual benefit in meditation but rather as a way to be in relationship in all areas of life. Mindfulness opens us up to connect more fully with our mind, body, heart, and world. In week 3, I focused on looking at our relationship with the world in new ways.
The patterns of our inner world mirror the patterns of our outer world.
With roots in the ground and branches in the sky, we find our place in the world.
The light of the new day is a gift to be received. Live in abundance.
Be open to places of encounter and divine beings.
Day 19 – Oceans
Experience awe and wonder, blessings abound.
Day 20 – Wild Things
Recognize the importance of all beings whether human or otherwise.
Day 21 – Summary
The true benefit of mindfulness is waking up to life in all its dimensions.
Practice Options
Today is an opportunity to review the topics introduced in the third week, check out a day you missed, or spend more time with a practice that resonates with you.
Use the breath today not only as an anchor to be in the present moment when meditating, but to also be in the present moment wherever and whenever you find yourself in the world.
Reflect on this poem by Ganga White.
What if religion was each other?
If our practice was our life?
If prayer was our words?
What if the temple was the Earth?
If forests were our church?
If holy waters - the rivers, lakes and oceans?
What if meditation was our relationships?
If the teacher was life?
If wisdom was self-knowledge?
If love was the center of our being?
